A ray of light

In the early hours of September 7th, 2023, Lucienne passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 71. With broken hearts, we carry on with the memory of her beautiful presence and unshakeable kindness to strengthen us.

Born in Liège, Belgium, “Lulu” was much adored by her family from the start. Moving across the sea to Canada as a child, she grew up surrounded by her maternal family and an increasing gaggle of cousins. Lulu’s irresistible bright spirit meant she was loved by both her older and younger relatives in equal measure.

A caring soul with never-ending energy to assist others, Lu devoted herself to a long career with Air Canada, during which she met and married her husband Rolf, and gave birth to a daughter, Jenna.

After 33 years with Air Canada, Lu enjoyed an early retirement and found herself busier than ever, soon welcoming a grandchild. She kept up her curiosity for the world by taking university courses online and visiting the library to feed her insatiable literary mind.

Lu's ready smile, sense of humour, and her capacity to make anyone she met feel loved and worthy set her apart. Her gentle heart melted for animals, and she refused to kill an insect that could be set free outside. Her warmth radiated outward, making her small stature all the more loveable.

She will be remembered fondly in her happiest of places -- enjoying the sunshine and a cold drink on the deck, gardening with the wildlife, doing a crossword, or nose-deep in a good book (with a stack waiting beside her).

Lucienne is survived by her loving husband and best friend of nearly 44 years, Rolf, daughter Jenna, grandson Will, and mother Anna. She will be missed and forever cherished in the hearts of all those whose lives were touched by her sweetness.
